Monthly Seva Projects

SEPTEMBER SEVA 2022

Help our four legged friends. We hope to make simple toys, puzzles and pet beds and donate them on Sep 24th. Please take a look and signup if you are able to. This is a great opportunity do seva together as a family. All the suggested toys and other items are very easy to make at home with few materials most of which are available in our homes.

Tutorial video links are in the signup. Please consider donating your time even if you don’t have pets at home yet. All the animals in the shelter would appreciate it very much.

February 2021

Our February Seva project will focus on showing love to the elderly in our community. We plan to create 140 food boxes and 140 cards to delivery on February 20th to elderly across Chicago.

Since 1959, Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly, Chicago Chapter’s mission, philosophy, programs and activities remain focused on alleviating loneliness and isolation among elders. Social interaction is critical to the human spirit — they believe that nurturing the soul is as important as feeding the body.

During the second to last week of every month, when other resources can run low, they provide Food Bags containing a week’s worth of food to 140 elders in their program. Food Bags (pantry staples and fresh groceries.) are delivered by volunteers during a friendly visit — nourishment for the body and the soul. The bags will also include a cheerful card. The elders always love to get cards and have people think about them. Any type of general friendship style cards would work.

We are hoping that the Gangotri community can come up with 140 food boxes and 140 cards (handmade/store bought) to accompany each box this month. Each family will sign up for 5 boxes each with items as requested and deliver on Feb 20th morning.

January 2021 Home Cooked Meal.png

JANUARY 2021

Our January Seva project will coincide with Makara Sankranti, our Harvest festival. We will plan deliver home cooked hot meals to about 25 people at Sarah’s Circle on January 16th and January 23rd, 2021.

Sarah’s Circle provides a full continuum of services for women, including housing, life necessities, and supportive services, to help them permanently end their homelessness. After over 40 years of service, Sarah’s Circle is still growing to meet the needs of women. With the continued loss of affordable housing in our communities, over 2,000 women in Chicago will be homeless tonight. Sarah’s Circle is increasingly focused on permanent supportive housing solutions for these women.

December 2020

We delivered 600+ bagged lunches to Chicago Help Initiative on Dec 19th at 9.30am. They were very appreciative and sent their thanks to all the volunteers.

The lunches were then sent to seven different shelters that were very much in need of meals everyday.

Grateful to Gurudev for bringing us all together to serve and to be part of this loving and caring community🙏
